The Difference Between Technical, Job Specific and Developmental Assessments

Online Assessments help employees improve their effectiveness - from the hiring process to the development of senior leaders, assessments are a proven and effective tool to help maximise the potential of any workforce.

What are the Different Types of Assessments?

Technical Assessments

Technical assessments test your soft and hard skills. Employers test for these skills once they’re in the later stage of the hiring process to understand who they might want to hire. These tests are also perfect for pre-training testing and post-training testing, certification programs or workforce planning, and our online assessments ensure you select the right candidate and conduct the right level of training for your people.

For example, if an employer wants to hire you for a Contact Centre position, they might administer our Call Centre – Telephone Skills test, an online assessment where test-takers answer questions on topics such as holding and forwarding calls, taking and leaving messages, telephone etiquette as well as telephone terminology.

Our IKM Technical Assessments utilise proven methodologies to ensure you can reliably conduct pre-hire testing of your candidates for employment screening and evaluate the skills and abilities of your employees in the most cost-efficient and effective way. Featuring a powerful combination of a performance and a knowledge-based approach, you can cut the evaluation process in half.

Job Specific Assessments

Employers give job-specific tests to identify your knowledge about the job you’re applying for. These are pre-selected best-in-class cognitive, behavioural and technical assessments that are job-specific.

For instance, our Competency Assessment Test – General Instrument (CAT-GI) assesses and predicts the properties related to the successful functioning of various operational level jobs.

So if your prospective employer is hiring an Office Manager, you might receive a job knowledge test on the employer’s internal employee schedule planning process. Getting tested on specific job elements helps determine if you can apply the expertise you earned from previous positions.

Developmental Assessments

Developmental assessments are typically fast-paced communication and learning tools specifically designed to help individuals and teams understand themselves better.

Our Developmental Assessments in partnership with Consulting Resource Group International, Inc. (CRG) are not tests that can be passed or failed, they are completely self-administered and self-scoring. We place the emphasis on the person and their development, rather than on the assessment.
